Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like it was really important to pray the right prayer but you didn’t know what to say or how to pray? God took care of that for you.
Pray perfect prayers
The Bible records three specific prayers, inspired by the Holy Spirit and recorded by the Apostle Paul in the New Testament. These prayers ensure that we will know how to pray for wisdom, strength, and to understand and know His perfect will for us. Is that helpful or what?!?
Take a look at a few of the topics covered in these prayers:
- wisdom and revelation
- how to have victory over our enemy
- knowing and understanding his love for us
- how to operate in your place of authority
- how to know and experience His great power–the same power that raised Jesus from the dead! This power will work on our behalf in any and every situation we could think of.
Pray daily and consistently
I pray these prayers almost every morning during my prayer time, and they kinda amaze me every time I read them. They demonstrate how much He is for us and wants us to know and receive all of the good things He has for us.
But honestly, it’s hard to believe at first glance that we can take these prayers literally. Faith doesn’t just automatically rise up and grab hold of them on day 1. You have to put them into your heart and mouth every day. Gradually, over time, they begin to make sense, and they become easier and easier to believe.
And as you pray each day, the Holy Spirit will even begin to help you customize them to your life and circumstances. They become a spring board for an exciting and faith-filled prayer
Sometimes it’s hard to feel confident when you pray a bold prayer. But God is okay with you asking Him for something that is big and over the top.
These prayers are right there in black and white. And the Bible says that all scripture was given to us for instruction and as an example (2 Timothy 3:16). Even Paul said he never ceased praying these prayers! It’s clear why they were written down: for us to pray them!
Let’s start with the first one in Ephesians 1:17-25:
“Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that ye may know the hope of his calling, and what the are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe,
According to the working of his mighty power, which he wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenlies, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world but in that which is to come:
and hath put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, hiwch is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.
Chapter two goes on and I and paraphrase parts of it to add to my prayer:
And even when I was dead in sins, you have quickened us together with Christ (by grace are we saved), and hath raised us up together and seated us together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus!” (v.5-6)
Pray with authority
This gets me really excited when I really listen to the words I am speaking and praying! In Chapter 1 God said that He seated Jesus farrrr above the entire hierarchy of the evil world of the enemy! Then in chapter 2 He says He seated us in Christ in the heavenlies!
Friends, this is h-u-g-e!
The first part of this prayer talks about how we can ask for wisdom, revelation, and knowledge. It is so important that we do that, because we need to know who we are!
We have authority–these verses clearly lay it out for us. Not in our own selves–but in Him. That little 2-word phrase makes ALL the difference.
In trying to be humble and not prideful, it is easy to think and speak of ourselves in terms of being a basic spiritual nobody. But that’s not true. Because we are in Him, we have a place of authority and dominion and we must know this and work within this place if we are going to win.
Our enemy is a bully and a liar, and if we refuse to step up and take our place, the place that Jesus has provided for and placed us in, then satan will triumph every chance he gets.
By praying this prayer as written, you are safe from veering off into the weeds spirutally, and you are on solid ground for praying accurately and according to God’s perfect will.
I could go on and on about unpacking all of the treasures in this passage, but let’s go on and look at another prayer that just builds on this one.
It is found in Ephesians 3: 16-21:
“…that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by your spirit in the inner man: that Christ may dwell in your hears by faith, and that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Now unto him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. “
If you ever thought that being a Christian was boring or somehow limited you in your life, I hope that when you study and think about the words of these prayers, you will change your mind.
Prayers that bring results
As you pray these prayers and make them part of your daily prayer life, your life will change. It will change because God will begin to answer them. New insights will begin to come. “Ah ha” moments will come when you read a passage of scripture, or when you are thinking about how to deal with a situation or solve a problem.
You will be strengthened and feel and know that you are up for the battle and for winning! God’s amazing love will become real to you, and it will ground you. You will feel established and settled–anchored upon a rock even in the midst of a storm.
And the most mind-boggling of all–you will begin to be filled with the fullness of God himself. We know that God is love, and he is light, and those attributes will begin to become part of you.
See, I told you- He is AMAZING!!
But wait! There’s more!
Pray with wisdom
Let’s look at the prayer in Colossians 1: 9-14:
“For this cause also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God: strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and, with joyfulness.
Who has delivered us from the power of darkness and hat translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son, in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
Okay. There is so much to unpack in this prayer. The biggest thing to me, that is hidden in plain sight, is that little word…all.
It says all wisdom. All spiritual understanding. Strengthened with all might. Unto all patience and longsuffering.
If we stopped at the first one, all wisdom, it would be more than enough for forever. ALL of God’s wisdom??
But He keeps going. God is so generous. He wants us to have all of Him.
All spiritual understanding. This is important, so that we know how to apply the wisdom He reveals to us.
Prayers for all circumstances
Any answer you need, any solution, any situation or circumstance can be covered by this prayer.
Even when things are going well and there are no immediate crises, you can still pray this prayer daily. You will begin to know what to do before a situation gets out of hand. The wisdom of God will begin to build in you, and you will have it abiding in you. Sometimes it will enable you to avoid a problem altogether. Other times you will immediately know what to do to resolve it.
Remember, these prayers work best when you pray them on a regular basis. You don’t just need wisdom once, you need it daily. You don’t need to be reminded of who you are and who’s you are just once, you need it daily. God doesn’t want us to be planted in the fertile soil of His love and then forgotten. We need to water our faith daily so our roots go down deep and we become firmly established in it.
The enemy will come along and tell you that you are alone, and you won’t win this time. That no one cares- not even your heavenly Father. But you won’t fall for it. You will already be full of the love, power, wisdom and knowledge of God. You will be established in who you are and how loved you are, and it will make you strong. And you will know how to fight and win.
Prayers with benefits
Praying prayers that are written in the Bible has special benefits. We’ve already talked about how you know for sure that you are praying a solid, accurate prayer. And that it is certainly His will, since He wrote it by inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 4:12 says that the word of God is, “quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirt, and joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
When you pray scripture, you are praying words that contain life, power, and an anointing to pierce to the root of any issue, whether it be spiritual, emotional, or physical.
God has given us these prayers as a precious gift and a deep well to draw from. I have barely scratched the surface in talking about all the richness and treasures they contain. They are always there–we can pray them morning, noon, or in the middle of the night. You can pray them over and over at any moment that you need God to be present in your life in a tangible and real way.
I challenge you to begin incorporating these powerful prayers into your daily time with God. And be sure to let me know how they begin changing your life and circumstances, and the many ways you begin to see God move on your behalf!
